AU 12, UK 12, US 8, EU 40: the same dress! Learn to translate sizes anywhere in the world.
One body, four numbers
Women’s sizes use different number systems in different countries. Your body hasn’t changed - only the label has. Once you know the pattern, shopping overseas sites (or op-shopping a US brand in Brisbane) gets easy.
Dresses, tops and skirts
| AU | UK | US | EU |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 | 6 | 2 | 34 |
| 8 | 8 | 4 | 36 |
| 10 | 10 | 6 | 38 |
| 12 | 12 | 8 | 40 |
| 14 | 14 | 10 | 42 |
| 16 | 16 | 12 | 44 |
| 18 | 18 | 14 | 46 |
| 20 | 20 | 16 | 48 |
| 22 | 22 | 18 | 50 |
The pattern: AU and UK are the same. US is 4 less. EU is AU + 28. Some brands use letters instead (XS–XXL), and those vary wildly - always check the brand’s own chart against your measurements.
Shoes
| AU / US women’s | UK | EU (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | 5 | 38 |
| 8 | 6 | 39 |
| 9 | 7 | 40 |
| 10 | 8 | 41–42 |
| 11 | 9 | 42–43 |
| 12 | 10 | 43–44 |
The pattern: AU and US women’s sizes are basically the same; UK is 2 less. EU sizes go by length and vary a bit by brand, so check the centimetre measurement when you can.
Bras (bands)
| AU | UK / US | EU |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | 32 | 70 |
| 12 | 34 | 75 |
| 14 | 36 | 80 |
| 16 | 38 | 85 |
| 18 | 40 | 90 |
| 20 | 42 | 95 |
The pattern: AU band + 22 = UK/US band. EU goes up in 5s. Cup letters match up to D, then split (AU/UK go DD, E, F, FF… while US often goes DD/E, DDD/F, G…). You’ll learn more in Bra Basics.
