How to use the meter
Your microphone audio stays on your device - nothing is recorded or uploaded.
- Find your baseline. Read a sentence or two in your everyday voice: βThe rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colours.β Note roughly where the line sits.
- Explore gently. Say βmm-hmm?β as if agreeing with a friend, then count to five a few notes higher. Notice the range where it feels easy and unforced.
- Pick a comfy zone, not a number to hit. Many trans women settle somewhere around the high 100s to low 200s Hz on average, but it really varies. A slightly lower pitch with brighter resonance and lighter weight often sounds more natural than a high, heavy one.
Things to remember
- Your pitch moves constantly in natural speech - donβt try to hold a flat line. Look at the average.
- Pitch alone wonβt feminise a voice. If you push pitch up without changing resonance and weight, it tends to sound strained or falsetto.
- Your range will usually be a bit lower in the morning and when youβre tired.
