Why colour matters

Some colours make your skin look bright and rested; others can make you look tired or washed out, even when nothing else has changed. Colour analysis is a fun, loose system for finding your best shades, especially for things near your face: tops, scarves, glasses, hair colour and lipstick.

The three things that matter

  1. Undertone - the hue under your skin’s surface: warm (golden, peachy), cool (pink, rosy, bluish) or neutral (a mix). Olive skin often sits between, with a greenish cast.
  2. Value - how light or deep your overall colouring is (skin, hair, eyes together).
  3. Chroma / contrast - whether you look best in clear, bright colours or soft, muted ones. High contrast between hair and skin often suits bold colours.

The four seasons (in a nutshell)

Season Undertone Vibe Try
🌸 Spring Warm Light, clear, fresh Coral, peach, warm aqua, golden yellow, ivory
🌊 Summer Cool Light, soft, misty Dusty rose, lavender, powder blue, soft grey
πŸ‚ Autumn Warm Deep, rich, muted Olive, rust, mustard, camel, teal
❄️ Winter Cool Deep, clear, high contrast Black, pure white, emerald, royal blue, fuchsia

Try it

Use the tool to answer a few questions about your colouring. Daylight by a window, no makeup and a plain white or grey top work best.

Colour combos that always work

  • Monochrome: shades of one colour (blush top, rose skirt) - instantly polished.
  • Neutral + one colour: navy, camel, grey, black, white or denim with a single bright pop.
  • Analogous: neighbours on the colour wheel (pink + coral, blue + green) - harmonious.
  • Complementary: opposites (purple + yellow, blue + orange) - bold and fun. Try them in small doses first.

Write your season and favourite colours in your Journal - you’ll use them when you plan a capsule wardrobe.
