Skincare doesn’t stop at your jawline
Your face routine is the star, but your neck, chest, hands, lips and feet deserve a little love too. They’re often the first places to look dry, rough or sun-damaged, and they’re also the places people notice when you hand over a coffee or kick off your sandals.
Lips 💋
- Lips have no oil glands, so they dry out fast. Balm little and often, and a thicker layer (or petroleum jelly) at night.
- Use a lip balm with SPF in the day - lips burn too.
- Don’t lick or peel dry lips; it makes them worse. If they’re flaky, a balm under a lip product, or a gentle rub with a damp face cloth, is enough.
- Smooth lips make lipstick and gloss look so much better - a nice bridge to the makeup bed.
Hands 🤲
- Hand cream after washing, especially before bed. Keep one by the sink, the bed and in your bag.
- Sunscreen on the backs of your hands - hands show sun damage early.
- Pair with cuticle oil for that cared-for look (see the nails bed).
Feet 🦶
- Rough heels: soak, gently file with a pumice or foot file, then a thick cream or one with urea. Socks overnight work wonders.
- Never cut hard skin or corns yourself - see a podiatrist if they’re painful.
- Trim toenails straight across to avoid ingrown nails.
Body ✨
- Moisturise after showers, while skin is a bit damp, to lock in water.
- Lukewarm, not hot, showers - hot water strips oils.
- Bumpy arms or thighs (often keratosis pilaris) and post-shave bumps often improve with a lotion containing lactic acid, urea or salicylic acid - patch test first.
- Body sunscreen on any skin that sees the sun.
