A plan is a gift to future-you

A personal safety plan is a short document with everything you’d want at your fingertips if something went wrong: who to call, where to go, what to say. You’ll probably rarely need it. But making it calms the nervous system - your brain stops running “what if” loops when it knows there’s a plan.

Use the tool below. It’s saved only on your device and you can print it or keep it as a note on your phone.

What to include

  • Your people - two or three trusted contacts who’d pick up at 2am. Ask them first!
  • Your codes - a word or emoji your friends know means “call me with an excuse” or “come get me”.
  • Safe places - a friend’s house, a 24-hour servo or supermarket, a police station, a friendly venue on your usual route.
  • Getting home - your usual routes, rideshare and taxi apps set up, a bit of emergency cash.
  • Phone set-up (emergency contacts and medical ID on your lock screen; emergency SOS shortcut turned on (on most iPhones and Androids, pressing the side button several times or holding side + volume starts it) check your phone’s settings).
  • Support numbers - emergency (000 AU · 999 UK · 911 US) plus the support lines listed below that fit your life.
